Oxford University's Life and Mind Building Earns Four Top Honors at Science Industry Awards
NBBJ's design of the Life and Mind Building at the University of Oxford has been recognized with four honors at the 2026 Life Sciences, Tech & Research Clusters Awards, a leading program celebrating excellence in life sciences, research and innovation. The project received Project of the Year, Best New Campus Development, Innovative Lab Solutions, and Sustainability & Environmental Impact.
Recognizing the project's groundbreaking approach to science, research and education, judges praised the building as "a landmark achievement" and "a sector-leading benchmark for sustainable laboratory design." Designed to accommodate 23% more people in 21% less space than the facilities it replaces—while reducing the overall building area by 20%—the Life and Mind Building demonstrates how thoughtful planning can advance both scientific discovery and environmental performance.
The recognition builds on NBBJ's continued leadership in science and research design. Last year, the firm was named Practice of the Year by the Life Sciences, Tech & Research Clusters Awards, underscoring its commitment to creating environments that help research organizations do more with less.
