Vista Pavilion Opens at OHSU, Expanding Access to Advanced Cancer Care
Expanding access. Elevating care. Transforming the patient experience. The NBBJ-designed Vista Pavilion at Oregon Health & Science University officially opened to patients on Tuesday, April 7th—marking a major milestone in advancing cancer care in Oregon.
Part of OHSU’s broader expansion, the 14-story, 500,000+ SF pavilion adds 128 new inpatient beds, increasing capacity for complex oncology treatment and long-term care.
Designed around the emotional reality of cancer treatment, the pavilion integrates patient-centered strategies throughout—from light-filled public spaces and calming environments to corridors lined with artwork inspired by Oregon’s landscapes and a central garden that offers moments of respite for patients, families and caregivers.
A key innovation is the use of positive pressure environments beyond patient rooms and into hallways, allowing immunocompromised patients—many of whom stay for weeks at a time—to safely move throughout the floor, rather than remaining isolated in their rooms.
By aligning clinical excellence with human-centered design, Vista Pavilion creates a setting where patients feel supported—not just treated—while enabling OHSU to serve more people across the region. Read more here.
